Here's one of the great Christmas stories, one impossible to ruin: Gruff, greedy Ebenezer gets the Scrooge scared out of him by Christmas ghosts and turns into a veritable Santa. In this production, the tale survives—but not without injury—an uneven cast and a staging by Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater that is just too precious. Watch for another version of A Christmas Carol, starring George C. Scott, on CBS December 17.
