You can't ask for a better sitcom cast: Ed (Lou Grant) Asner as the crusty co-owner of a tacky clothing firm in New York and Eileen (Private Benjamin) Brennan as the widow of his late partner-two enemies who end up in business together. Asner is still a touch too cuddly to come off as piggish when he gnaws on his cigar and tells his shapely secretary to wear something "that shows off your personalities." So sometimes he ends up playing straight man to Brennan, who gets most of the good, snide lines. When she tells a woman at her husband's funeral, "You know, your potato salad really made this wake," it's her cynical delivery that makes it so funny. This is the stuff of which good series are made: a stellar cast with built-in conflict and loads of good lines. Rack is the third sitcom ABC is trying out in two weeks. It is the one the network should snatch up.
