Picks and Pans Review: Quick: Somebody Stop Her Before She Takes Her Clothes Off Again
In her suit charging that the Boston Symphony had canceled her performances as narrator of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex because of her support for the Palestine Liberation Organization, actress Vanessa Redgrave said the 1982 cancellation had hampered her career. Desperation for work forced her, she said, to accept a $100,000 role in the movie Steaming, even though it required her to do a nude scene. Redgrave did win the part of her suit that alleged violation of contract, but it may not have had much to do with her sense of modesty. She did, after all, appear naked from the waist up in the 1966 film Blow Up.
