Jami Gertz, who played a rock singer on this season's short-lived CBS series Dreams, is singing the blues between takes of her upcoming action-drama feature called Quicksilver, in which she and Kevin (Footloose) Bacon play big-city bicycle messengers. "My tush hurts and my legs are covered with bruises," complains Gertz, who has been biking several miles a day to get in shape for the role. One of her trainers is Olympic silver-medal cyclist Nelson Vails, a former New York City bicycle messenger, who has a ride-on role in the opening scene. Though Gertz does her own pedaling in the film, she let a stunt-woman do a scripted flip over a fire hydrant. "She was almost run over," says Gertz. "I felt so guilty. But I can barely handle a stationary Exercycle."
General Hospital fans who are wondering why actor-singer Jack Wagner (Frisco Jones) disappeared briefly from the show have a choice of answers. Wagner's publicist says Jack injured his back while moving furniture and couldn't work for a week. Insiders at G.H. say Wagner was holding out for more money from producer Gloria Monty. Jack is now back, reportedly without a raise. What multimillionaire Hollywood producer, as a security measure, keeps an old police car conspicuously parked in the driveway of his Beverly Hills home? The Shadow knows—but so far the crooks don't.
Word from the Falcon Crest grapevine is that after carrying on since the show's debut, Cole Gioberti (Billy Moses) and Melissa Cumson (Ana Alicia) will get hitched. The marriage will take place during a two-part episode in February. At least the couple should get a good price on champagne...Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton and her coach, Bela Karolyi, are approaching New York publishers with a proposed workout book. Their asking price is $300,000-plus...Michael (Johnny Dangerously) Keaton is best known for his comedic roles, but he is tackling a serious subject in Touch and Go, a dramatic film about ice hockey. He doesn't worry about critics not taking him seriously, as happened to Bill Murray in The Razor's Edge. "That film dealt with heavy, metaphysical questions," says Keaton. " Touch and Go doesn't take those risks. It's about hockey. You won't be seeing shots of me taking a guy to the boards, asking, 'Why am I here on earth?' More likely, it'll be, 'How can I kill that guy?' "
The immensely successful miniseries Lace revolved around Phoebe Cates' memorable question, "Which one of you bitches is my mother?" Now that the mystery has been solved (it was Bess Armstrong), here comes Lace II and another dilemma. When Cates' mother (played this time by Deborah Raffin) is kidnapped, Cates needs ransom money and looks to her father for assistance. The only problem is: Who is he? Anthony Higgins, Patrick Ryecart or James Read? Predictably, perplexed Cates turns to co-stars Brooke Adams and Arielle Dombasle and says, "I want you to help me find out which one of those bastards is my father." It's only a rumor that Lace III will be predicated on the line, "Which one of you bozos is my cousin Ernie?"
