Picks and Pans Review: Don't Be Afraid to Love

UPDATED 02/18/1985 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 02/18/1985 at 01:00 AM EST

by Susan Polis Schutz

Schutz is a greeting card verse writer (150 million cards have been sold) and poet (10 million books sold) who makes Norman Rockwell look like a cynic. One poem in this passionless collection begins, "Love is/ being happy for the other person/ when they are happy/ being sad for the person/ when they are sad." The book is illustrated by Schutz's husband, Stephen; he is a trained physicist whose drawings make Rockwell look like Michelangelo. (Blue Mountain Press, Boulder, Colo. $10.95)
