Various Artists

The vocal performances on this album are uniformly excellent, as you might expect from such singers as Patti LaBelle and the Pointer Sisters. Too bad they had to be singing this music, most of which is postdisco detritus. Junior's Do You Really (Want My Love?) has some bite. Glenn Frey's The Heat Is On, co-written and co-produced by Billy Idol producer Keith Forsey, is a brisk strutter. For the most part, however, Beverly Hills Cop is not nearly as arresting as the movie. (MCA)

BREAKIN'2 ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

The sound track to Electric Boogaloo reflects the fact that this is a sequel more intent on imitation than imagination. Once again Ollie Brown and Jerry Knight are the major composing contributors, but nothing comes close to matching their Breakin'...There's No Stopping Us from the sound track of the first movie. The best tune on the current album is Din Daa Daa, West German George Kranz's frantic paean to percussion. But most of these songs are crass and mechanical. (Polygram)
