WTBS (Sunday, March 3, 8 p.m. ET)

William Manchester's biography of Gen. Douglas MacArthur becomes a documentary with John Huston as the voice of Dugout Doug. At first, this looks like just another war documentary with talking heads, file footage, animated maps and drums on the soundtrack. But judging from the first few of its five hours, the slow-moving American Caesar turns fascinating thanks to MacArthur himself, an overtly eccentric character, a mama's boy, a gargantuan egotist, a hardheaded military genius, a hero and sometimes a fool. (Parts Two through Four air nightly through Wednesday.)
