Part-time rancher and former Coal Miner's Daughter, Sissy Spacek showed up at a Hollywood salute to Gene Kelly wearing a gamine's grin and what looked like Charlie Chaplin's best suit. When not preoccupied with horses or hoofers, Spacek has been making a political drama, Marie, for Dino De Laurentiis and has wrapped a romance, Violets Are Blue, for Jack Fisk. Off the set Fisk doubles as her husband.
The guy in black tie is Mikhail Baryshnikov, and his fine feathered friend is Goldie Hawn. Although the two danced à deux as part of a Los Angeles fund raiser for the American Ballet Theatre, they are, of course, not a romantic couple. Hawn may have stepped lightly with Misha, but she left with her sweetheart, actor Kurt Russell, who was waiting in the wings.
NEWSFLASH: Panic spread through Gotham today when a large carnivorous plant ate hard-to-swallow Mayor Edward I. Koch. Moments later the plant spit Hizzoner back into the world. While reporters investigated rumors that the whole affair was part of an annual evening of political parody, some concerned New Yorkers expressed sympathy. "It must have been horrible," said a cabdriver. "The plant could have been killed."
