Michael Martin Murphey

Few videos tell a story as neatly as does this one, set to Murphey's version of a Renée Armand/ Kerry Chater song about a girl who wishes that her estranged parents would get back together. Onscreen a teenage girl, played by Gillian (Little House on the Prairie) Grant, runs away from home to a big city. Murphey, as the girl's father, tries to follow and find her, while her mother (played by Murphey's wife, Mary) waits anxiously. In conjunction with the video's message, Murphey has made appearances in support of two programs that offer free aid to runaways. One is the Runaway Hotline, a toll-free phone network that offers runaways free guidance on finding help, as well as on returning home. (The number is 1-800-392-3352 in Texas, 1-800-231-6946 elsewhere nationwide.) The other program is Operation Home Free, in which the Trailways Corp. and the International Association of Chiefs of Police offer runaways free transportation home. (Telephone your local police department.)
