Picks and Pans Review: The Mighty Monstromurk Menace

UPDATED 05/13/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 05/13/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT

The second installment of the Rainbow Brite videos pits that walking paint store, R.B., against her archenemy, Murky Dismal. Murky, whose goal is to turn the universe into a black-and-white production, has a more refined wit than the standard cartoon villain. When the genie-like behemoth Monstromurk escapes from the bottle where he has been imprisoned for 700 years, he growls that Murky will pay for that incarceration. "Can't you take a joke?" asks Murky. Rainbow Brite is efficient and unpreachy, and the human boy, Brian, who helps her and her friends fight Murky, is a pleasantly flawed sort. While the pace is lively, there is nothing close to real violence. And yes, thank badness, Murky survives to scowl another day. (Children's Video Library, $29.95)
