Picks and Pans Review: Welcome to the Pleasure Dome
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Roll over Samuel Taylor Coleridge and tell the Romantics the news. If, as someone once said, "Good poets borrow, but great poets steal," Frankie is a great poet, but this clip proves he's little else. Frankie steals the opening lines of Kubla Khan and even adds some immortal lines of his own, like "There goes a supernova, what a pushover, yeah," which are then repeated ad migrainium. The video is a compendium of freak-show mishaps that make as little sense as the song itself. (A woman turns into a huge snake, and various other oddities perform for the camera.) For random eeriness this video should win an award. The problem is that it is so pointlessly eerie it's boring.
