Picks and Pans Review: Smuggler's Blues

Glenn Frey

The song is a heavy-handed morality tale about the perils of trying to bring illicit drugs into Miami from Colombia. The video, with Frey playing the main smuggler and his wife Janie Frey playing his girlfriend-accomplice, adds a lot of flash to the tune. Part of that is related to wanting to find out how the story is going to end, of course, which may make repeated viewings tiresome. Director Duncan Gibbins, though, keeps the action jumping—this looks like a miniversion of Brian De Palma's Scarface at times.
