Picks and Pans Review: Sports Illustrated Pitching

UPDATED 06/03/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 06/03/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT

by Pat Jordan

A former minor league pitcher, Jordan approaches this how-to book with surprising solemnity. He couldn't take things more seriously if he were telling how to perform brain surgery. The book is full of detailed, clear advice, though, elucidated by Robert Handville's sequential illustrations. Jordan says anyone can learn to be at least a fair pitcher. That probably should not encourage the 41-year-olds among us to give up any careers to try for a baseball comeback, even if the old knuckleball does seem to be really dancing these days.
