Picks and Pans Review: Cooking: a Cook's Dictionary

UPDATED 06/17/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 06/17/1985 at 01:00 AM EDT

by Henry Beard & Roy McKie

Henry is, clearly, no relation to James. His definition of restaurant, for instance, is "where the remaining courses of a meal that began with a flambéed appetizer in a home dining room are served." The listing for gravy says, "See Tie." Beard is a former editor at National Lampoon, and you'll find more cooking information on the wrapper of your favorite bubble gum than there is here. But Beard and McKie, a free-lance illustrator, provide comic relief for those suffering from kitchen fatigue. (Workman, paper, $5.95)
