"Weird Al" Yankovic

That's not exactly a groove Weird Al is in; it's more like the path made by a charging rhino. But he's sure settled in. This LP is a nice mix of parodies of pop hits and original novelties, with the theme from the old George of the Jungle TV show thrown in. The parodies include two obvious choices, Like a Surgeon and Girls Just Want to Have Lunch, which put Madonna's Like a Virgin and the Cyndi Lauper smash in perspective. A couple of the songs seem like reaches, especially Yoda, which limns The Empire Strikes Back patriarch to the tune of the Kinks' Lola. Al's own Cable TV is funny, though: "I got the Siamese Faith Healer's network/The news and weather from Peru/I got celebrity hockey/The racquetball channel too." And you have to like a guy whose idea of a torch song is "Yes, I'd rather jump naked on a huge pile of thumbtacks/Or stick my nostrils together with Krazy Glue/I'd rather dive into a swimming pool filled with double-edge razor blades/Than spend one more minute with you."
