Picks and Pans Review: The Secret World of Erotic Art
A Penthouse project, this soft-porn shlock pans over suggestive Greek vases, Japanese prints and 18th-century French etchings in a sentimentalized daze. Such section titles as "Devils & the Flesh," and "Position Papers" tell you more than you need to know about what's in store: shots of ivory phalluses, a Victorian watch with a hideaway picture and, yes, plenty of French postcards. If you were looking for any serious critique on the erotica of such artists as Picasso, Calder or Toulouse-Lautrec, no such luck. The hosts, actors Peggy O'Brien and Tom Nolan, are too busy gazing soulfully into each other's eyes and reciting John Donne. (Vestron, $59.95)
