Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam

It's a teen ritual as old as the battle against acne: The boy pushes for sexual gratification while the girl holds out for a sign of commitment. That classic dilemma has inspired popular songs since long before the Shirelles' Will You Love Me Tomorrow in 1960. But Full Force, the Brooklyn sextet that wrote, produced and arranged this album, has escalated the theme into a booming industry. Full Force is already responsible for UTFO's Roxanne, Roxanne, an importunate rap wooing, and The Real Roxanne, the distaff answer record, as well as their own Girl If You Take Me Home. The centerpiece of this collection, I Wonder If I Take You Home, performed by the trio Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, is a fresh, brisk dance number, despite its simple, nursery rhyme meter. Unfortunately, with the exception of You'll Never Change, a number that contains attractive harmonies, the rest of the album is uninspired, mechanical neodisco. (Columbia)
