Picks and Pans Review: Mystery!: My Cousin Rachel

They've remade another movie, the fools. They took a taut psychological mystery and stretched it to four flabby hours. And they made Richard Burton's Oscar-nominated performance in the 1952 original look even better by comparison. Christopher Guard, as a young man who falls in love with his crazed cousin Rachel, ruins young Burton's role with whining wimpery. Geraldine Chaplin plays Rachel (Olivia de Havilland did it better) with more neuroses than nuance.
