PBS' disappointing Mystery! series finally comes up with a good one. Joan (Yanks) Hickson as Miss Marple—the prim progenitor of prime time's Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote—quietly outsmarts cops, criminals and even viewers. Hickson isn't quite as much fun as Lansbury; old Englanders, it seems, aren't as spunky as New Englanders. Still, the case she cracks is nicely tangled, worth watching and solving.
