Skeeter Davis & NRBQ

Davis, now 54, had a substantial career singing country music in the '50s and '60s but turned to gospel during the '70s and most recently has been semiretired. This return to performing demonstrates some of the frailties of her voice—Someday My Prince Will Come, for instance, is a stretch for her. Yet she still has a verve that works nicely on such rabble-rousers as You Don't Know What You Got Til You Lose It. NRBQ, an eclectic band of East Coast stompers, perks things up considerably, and the sit-in help by steel guitar virtuoso Buddy Emmons doesn't hurt either. (Rounder)
