Picks and Pans Review: Little League's Official How to Play Baseball

The best thing about this tape, commissioned by the National Little League organization and co-directed by David Stein and John Gonzalez, is what it doesn't do: over-teach. Members of the Union, N.J. Little League and two actors portraying coaches touch only on basic techniques in clear, easy-to-understand words and demonstrations. The hitting segment, for instance, covers the essentials without getting into subtleties—hitting to the opposite field, say-best reserved for later years. The film keeps a light tone, avoiding the Charge of the Light Brigade mentality that is the bane of Little Leagues everywhere. (MasterVision, $39.95)
