Often heralded as a cheap date, bowling was anything but that for the common folk who shelled out $200 to nosh on hot dogs and compete with the stars. In the process of raising $50,000, some celebrity egos were boosted, others bruised. Karen (Raiders of the Lost Ark) Allen was the top-scoring woman; neophyte Phoebe (Lace) Cates narrowly missed getting the Joan Collins award, given to the player who spent the most time in the gutter. Cates, about to start rehearsals for an upcoming Second Stage production, Rich Relations, took the loss philosophically: "I expected to embarrass myself tonight, but it's for a good cause."
