Tears for Fears

Director Mike Mansfield makes restrained yet effective use of graphics and editing tricks in this tape of a London concert. That's not a bad idea, since a cup of tea and a crumpet would generate about as much excitement as Tears leaders Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal do onstage. (Unlike Clapton or Skaggs, they don't have musical laurels sturdy enough to rest on.) Grid overlays and negative images won't make anyone swoon either, but they do break the monotony. The group performs 13 songs, though not the big 1985 tunes, Shout! or Everybody Wants To Rule the World. Some people, of course, may find those omissions a blessing.
