Once more, PBS presumes that we care enough about the British to watch another miniseries about them. Mapp & Lucia, based on novels by E.F. Benson, is very British. But if you give it some time (you have four hours over four Sundays) and adjust your ears to the overdone snoot accents, you may find some chortles. For this is a British miniseries in which the Brits twit themselves. Prunella (Fawlty Towers) Scales and Geraldine (The Barchester Chronicles) McEwan play two queens of small-town society who go to war, superbly camouflaging their meanness with manners. A genteel hoot. A quality import.
