Picks and Pans Review: The Temptation of Wilfred Malachey by William F. Buckley Jr.

UPDATED 05/05/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 05/05/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT

This delightful offering, read by the author, is a high-tech ghost story about an expensive computer, greed and a young boy named Wilfred. He is one of the poorer students at an elite Vermont boarding school. He is also a thief, a computer whiz and very likable. When Wilfred encounters the "Omegagod," a level-headed silicon spook, it sounds much like the author, if he were speaking through an echo box. (Caedmon, $8.98)
