The old British pop group 10cc seems to have inspired its members to become followers of the buddy system. Former members are now in the duos Godley and Creme, Mason and Fenn, and this new group, Wax. An unlikely but felicitous alliance, Wax is made up of 10cc veteran Graham Gouldman and Andrew Gold. Gouldman was responsible for the 10cc favorites I'm Not in Love and The Things We Do for Love. Gold, a longtime Linda Ronstadt collaborator, had such solo hits as Lonely Boy and Thank You for Being a Friend, which is now the theme for TV's Golden Girls sitcom. Together they create simple, sprightly pop music. Gouldman's fetching voice is well served by Gold's understated but tasty instrumentation. But their real forte is writing, as this consistently fine offering shows. (RCA)
