Picks and Pans Review: Ricky Nelson in Concert

UPDATED 08/11/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 08/11/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT

Though there is a minor kind of historic significance to this tape since it was the last Nelson concert recorded before his death in a plane crash last December, there are better ways to remember him. He seems listless and looks almost gaunt in this 21-minute excerpt of a Los Angeles Universal Amphitheatre show. While he performs a few new tunes and such old hits as Travelin' Man and Garden Party, he is upstaged by his electric guitar player, Bobby Neal, who also died in the crash. There hardly seems any connection between him and the vigorous young entertainer who became the classic little brother of the pop culture. (MCA Home Video, $19.95)
