NBC (Mon., Sept. 22, 8 p.m. ET)

In this poor man's E.T., an alien puppet from outer space crashes into the ham-radio room of a suburban nerd, Max (Buffalo Bill) Wright, and moves in with the family. A cute idea, but it's been done before: My Favorite Martian was a more engaging alien, Mr. Ed was a wittier babbling beast, and Kermit is a cuter puppet. ALF the alien did endear himself to me with one habit: He likes to eat cats. But otherwise, ALF's just another UFO—unimpressive fuzzy object.
