This season is so filled with copycat shows, the schedule reads like Genesis: The Golden Girls begat Designing Women; Dr. Kildare and Nurse begat Kay O'Brien; The Beverly Hillbillies begat Easy Street; My Favorite Martian begat ALF; Morningstar/Evening-star begat Our House; MacGyver begat The Wizard; The Untouchables begat Crime Story; Get Smart begat Sledge Hammer. Here's one more: Mod Squad and The A-Team begat an ugly if good-natured child named Downtown. Michael (Flashdance) Nouri—a cop with a face as lively as any Dragnet detective's—is forced to take charge of four oddball parolees: Millicent Martin as a dowager con artist, Robert (V) Englund as a suicidal neurotic, Blair Underwood as a wise-mouthed pickpocket and Mariska Hargitay as a karate expert. Nouri has his criminals chase other criminals. And he keeps his big, bad felons from breaking laws by giving them tough, no-nonsense warnings like: "Fasten your seat belt!" Twinkie.
