NBC (Mon., Oct. 6, 9 p.m. ET)

Away from the glare of that bright Miami sun known as Don Johnson, Philip Michael Thomas gets to show more warmth and talent here than he does in a thousand miles of chase scenes. Thomas marries Lesley Ann Warren. Then, because they're an interracial couple, she has to fight to keep her daughter. Thomas and Warren are great together and great with the kid. They produce real emotion as a family. So it's odd that they don't get worked up about the custody case until it's too late. The movie's weak, but at least Thomas gets to show some new strength.
