Picks and Pans Review: Matlock

UPDATED 10/13/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 10/13/1986 at 01:00 AM EDT

NBC (Tuesdays, 8 p.m. ET)

First Buddy Ebsen did it. Now Andy Griffith's doing it. They both found life after country-bumpkin sitcoms—and after white hair—by playing kindly country crime stoppers. Andy's an Atlanta attorney who solves mysteries not with wise deduction but with plain dumb luck. His new series has less suspense than Barnaby Jones...or The Beverly Hillbillies or even Mayberry R.F.D.
