So Springsteen has produced this major-league album. But does it yet belong in the Hall of Fame? To find out, PEOPLE asked 11 critics and artists—including Billy Joel, Tina Turner and Iggy Pop—to name, in order of preference, the Ten Rock Albums They'd Take to a Desert Island. (Some couldn't resist bringing a little jazz or classical to their lonely rock.)

The results were surprising. Five contributors listed a Springsteen LP, but none chose Live /1975-85—suggesting that even a hit of such critical magnitude must stand the test of time. Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones were tied as the most frequently named artists, followed by the Beatles. The oddest vote came from Chicago Tribune critic Lynn Van Matre, who said she'd like to be marooned to the tunes of Linton Kwesi Johnson's Dread, Beat and Blood.
