NBC (Sat., Jan. 31, 10 p.m. ET)

B

The pioneers and present-day champs of morning TV celebrate themselves and with good cause. Their special has great old clips, especially from the first Today in 1952 and from the early days, when a chimp co-hosted, newsmen raced go-carts and Barbara Walters was a Playboy bunny. Back then, when TV and all of us were not so slick, Today was the fun and funny morning show that CBS' new Morning Program is trying—and failing—to be now. I only wish the special had a little less chatter about the old days and more scenes from those days.
