Pat (The Karate Kid) Morita is an L.A. cop who takes cabs rather than drives—he's never the first on the scene. He's a gentle fellow who philosophizes with the folks he arrests. "That's one of life's wonders," Pat says, strolling on L.A.'s oceanfront, "that violence can live in the midst of all this peace and not show." The series is nowhere near as bad as my dread of it—thanks entirely to Morita's easy charm and to the fact that I haven't yet seen him karate kick a criminal. Still, Ohara is just another gimmicky cop show.
