A sort of proletarian Neil Simon, Gelman is a prolific playwright who combines just the right mix of reverent ideology and irreverent comedy to satisfy both mass audiences and the state. Park Bench is an especially apt vehicle for star Oleg Tabakov, whose performance as a philandering bus driver is a winner in any country.
