You can just hear this too-cute idea for a series being cooked up in some TV type's mental microwave: "So let's make another Back to School. Right. But let's make the old guy who's going to college a tough, retired Marine sergeant. Yeah. Burt Young can play that. He was in Back to School. Let's not make the kid his son. Let's make him a nerd. 'Cept nerds aren't hot now. So instead of computers, this kid likes fish. He loves fish. A splash of Splash, huh? Cory Haim can play the kid. And we'll make 'em roommates, 'cuz that's the title. And the tough old guy will be a softie inside, and he'll teach the kid lessons about life—one a week should be enough....Okay, so it's not Cosby or Family Tiesor even Facts of Life. It'll fill a half hour."
