When you're 9'7" tall and the door to your quarters is only 9'4" high, you're headed for problems. So it is that Smokey, a 16-year-old elephant at the Oakland (Calif.)Zoo, occasionally gets stuck in rather an awkward position. But there is a solution, according to the zoo's fortuitously named director, Dr. Joel Parrott. "Smokey," he says, "is learning to dip."
