Picks and Pans Review: Habit Forming
Without long speeches to listen to, my ears rang. Without the spectacle of watching politicians doing imitations of TV preachers, my soul sank. Without the vicarious thrill of seeing lawyers yell at each other, I fell into a deep depression. Cold sweats, nervous tics, chronic boredom—such were my symptoms of withdrawal last Monday when the Iran-contra hearings took the day off. I worry about what I'll do with myself when they end. Somebody on cable should start the Scandal Channel, with old tapes of the Watergate hearings, the Army-McCarthy hearings, Joan Collins' divorce trial—the seamy side of C-Span...Sleaze-Span. In the meantime we'll have to console ourselves with the knowledge that there are other shows on TV, like these....
