One thing impresses me about William (Cannon) Conrad's performance: He does a great imitation of Jabba the Hutt. The man is a cone of blubber held prisoner by inertia. That's why they save the chase scenes for his investigator, Joe (Riptide) Penny. Conrad the D.A. solves crimes the way every old star who returns to TV as a detective—Buddy (Barnaby Jones) Ebsen, Jack (Quincy) Klugman, Raymond (Ironside) Burr and Andy (Matlock) Griffith—solves them: slowly.
