Twinkie? Of course. The original Eight Is Enough (which left ABC in 1981) was nothing but Beaver with double the minutes, quadruple the kids and a hundred times more hugs. But it's sorta nice—mushy like a grandmother's kiss—to see Dick Van Patten back with his whole clan (except Mom Betty Buckley, who decided not to return; she's replaced by Newhart's Mary Frann). Sure, there's trouble in the house: One kid has turned into a Vegas lounge lizard, another's divorced, another had a miscarriage and Dick's newspaper is up for sale. But I won't be ruining anything for you to report that the endings are all happy. Let's just hope they don't make it into a series again. Once is enough.
