Meredith Baxter (Family Ties) Birney plays a wealthy businesswoman who's finally getting remarried and giving up hope on her husband, David Birney, a soldier missing in action in Vietnam. But suddenly, after all these years, David reappears with mysterious tales of escape and spying. And he's being chased by a bad guy who wants him dead. So David and Meredith go into hiding, and life turns quite weird with exploding jets, poisontipped umbrellas and bombs made of booze. Long Journey Home has one nifty plot with lots of nice twists. There's just one small element that could be stronger: the chemistry between Mr. and Mrs. Birney. They look like a happily married couple—which may be a good sign for the real-life marriage, but isn't what this movie needs.
