The folksiness of country music is more akin to Christmas songs than rock is, as this album shows. It mixes old tracks such as Emmylou Harris' Light of the Stable with new recordings such as It Came Upon a Midnight Clear by Highway 101, with lead singer Paulette Carlson sounding angelic indeed. Other highlights are the Everly Brothers' Silent Night and Randy Travis doing the clever Rich Grissom-Neil Patton Rogers song White Christmas Makes Me Blue. Eddy Raven's Blue Christmas comes off well too, though that's a trophy Elvis retired. (Warner Bros.)
