One thing cable does well—better than anybody on TV—is music. The best of this year's great lot: Paul Simon's Graceland—The African Concerton Showtime. Simon generously shared his stage with South African stars Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba. Close runners-up: Carly Simon's endearing comeback concert on Martha's Vineyard, Cyndi Lauper's energetic show from Paris and any episode of the rousing Cine-max Sessions series.
