Stop those presses. Here at last is a PBS import from Britain in which something actually happens. The plot comes courtesy of Thomas Hardy's short story On the Western Circuit. A servant girl—Sammi (Hope and Glory) Davis—falls in love with a traveling lawyer. He writes her love letters but she can't write back; she's illiterate. So she has her mistress (Hannah Gordon) write for her. Problem is, the boss lady starts to develop her own case of postal passion for the lawyer, and he doesn't know (until it's too late) who has really been steaming up his mailbox. A neat two-part tale.
