Adapted from William Steig's rodent version of Robinson Crusoe, this animated half-hour tape, with its quiet colors and calmly modulated voices, could offer a charming change of pace in a child's hectic day. The story's hero is the upper-crusty mouse Abelard Hassam di Chirico Flint. While picnicking with his wife, Amanda, Abel is swept away in a storm and marooned on an island. He bemoans the absence of mushroom omelettes, but he faces real hardships—"The environment no longer seemed altogether friendly," he says at one point. There's even an attack by an owl (tinier viewers might be hugged through that sequence) before Abel makes a break for civilization. British actor Tim (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) Curry does Abel's voice, and there's nary a mousetrap in sight. (Random House, $14.95)
