This week we see discount TV: a pilot for another pennies-to-produce nostalgia show; a best-of episode of a popular cable series; a cut-rate interview on what is supposed to be the cultural channel; a new weekly series that was too bad to win a slot in the regular season but not so bad it couldn't fill a few hours in the summer....Yes, that's the problem with summertime TV: Networks feed us any old junk because they think we're out sunning ourselves on the beach. But now we know that too much sun is bad for us. We should stay inside more. So it is the moral and medical responsibility of the networks to give us something worth staying inside for, something better than most of this...
