Picks and Pans Review: Men of Action

So far this summer the macho boys have wimped out. Sly Stallone's Rambo III is sinking at the box office. Ditto Arnold Schwarzenegger's Red Heat. Even the double punch of Sean Connery and Mark Harmon in The Presidio couldn't sell tickets. Muscles are meaningless when there's a bull market in marshmallow. Look at what the public is buying: a boyish Tom Hanks in Big; an unhip, unapologetically romantic Eddie Murphy in Coming To America; and a buffoonish bunny who can't hold his liquor or his wife in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Is there a real man around to knock some sense back into audiences? Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro and Bruce Willis have oiled their pecs and bravely risen to the challenge.
