The fastidious people who washed those Impressionists right out of their shirts in the 70s will enjoy this museum in Stark's Vacuum Cleaner Sales and Services showroom in Portland, Ore, Standing at attention are 86 dust-sucking devices. The 1870s models took three hands to work, one to grip the handle, one to work a pump, one to steer. Says a Stark employee: "These things must have been sold sight unseen, because as soon as you use them, you realize a broom picks up a whole lot more dirt."
