>A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4 A bigger special-effects budget only drives the wicked fun of pit-faced ghoul Freddy Krueger, still hellishly well played by Robert Englund, further into the background. This is not an improvement. (R)

THE BIG BLUE A very pretty, very boring love story between a deep-sea diver (Jean-Marc Barr) and any dolphin that happens to swim by. A wasted Rosanna Arquette waits in vain on dry land. (PG)

HERO AND THE TERROR

Chuck Norris plays a vulnerable, funny father-to-be. If you're not buying that—and why should you?—there's the usual action with Chuckles chasing a serial killer. (R)

MAC AND ME A blatant commercial for McDonald's and Coca-Cola disguised as an E.T. rip-off. To be avoided on all counts. (PG)
