Lee Radziwill Weds Director Herb Ross, and Hollywood Throws Rice at Jackie's Place
Niece Caroline and her husband Ed Schlossberg toted their own camera, but left baby Rose, 3 months, at home. John Kennedy Jr. bashed his license plate parking his orange Karmann-Ghia. Hollywood was represented by Bernadette Peters, a bearded Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah, whom Ross (The Goodbye Girl, The Turning Point) just directed in the forthcoming Steel Magnolias. Of course the younger Bouvier daughter—who, Jackie always insisted, was the prettier one—has been enamored of show business for years. She even made a stab at acting in the late '60s—alas, with no success.
On her rainy New York wedding evening, though, Lee basked in the paparazzi lights like a star. Impeccable in a blue silk suit designed by her friend and employer, Giorgio Armani (Lee organizes his special events), the bride stopped to strike affectionate poses with Ross, whom she has been visiting regularly on Magnolias' Louisiana set. Ross, who shares Radziwill's passion for ballet, began his career as a dancer and was married for 28 years to ballerina Nora Kaye, who died of cancer last year.
This was Lee's third wedding but her fourth engagement. Her first marriage, to publishing heir Michael Canfield, was annulled. She wed Polish Prince Stanislas Radziwill in 1959 and was divorced from him in 1974. Then in 1979, to the surprise of the assembled guests, she was a last-minute no-show at her planned wedding to San Francisco hotelier Newton Cope. This time she seemed delighted to shed a noble title for her newfound prince.
